Christian Stewardship at Ascension

Albert Einstein once said regarding his life, “I remind myself that my life depends on the labors of other people, living and dead. I realize that I must exert myself in order to give in the measure as I have received and am still receiving.”

As Christians, we should feel similarly about the gifts given to us by God. Gifts that we receive daily: gifts from the earth, gifts from the air oceans, gifts from the air, gifts from our families, friends, teachers, ministers, and don’t forget mercy, grace, peace, life joy and even salvation.

Einstein emphasized that he also needed to exert himself to “give in the measure that he had received.” As Jesus mentions in Luke 12:48, “Everyone to whom much is given, of him will much be required.”

We would do well to be alert to the bountiful gifts we are given each day and to make certain that we exert ourselves to give in the measure that we have received.

I look at Stewardship as a way of taking another step in faith by giving my response to everything that God has done and continues to do for me.

"The duty of all Christians is to follow Christ; to come together week by week for corporate worship; and to work, pray, and give for the spread of the kingdom of God.": (The Book of Common Prayer, page 856)

"O merciful Creator, your hand is open wide to satisfy the needs of every living creature: Make us always thankful for your loving providence; and grant that we, remembering the account that we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your good gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen." (The Book of Common Prayer, page 259)
