Equipping for Ministry

And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles. (Ephesians 4: 11-14)

The ministry of lay persons is to represent Christ and his Church; to bear witness to him wherever they may be and, according to the gifts given them, to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation in the world; and to take their place in the life, worship, and governance of the Church (The Book of Common Prayer, page 856).

We believe that God equips us with spiritual gifts to serve in him in the world. We encourage members to discover, develop, and use their spiritual gifts in and through the life The Church of the Ascension. We offer opportunities for individuals to learn about the spiritual gifts described in the Bible and to discover which ones they have received. Everyone is encouraged to use their gifts to help us remain loyal to our Core Values, to pursue our Mission, and share our Vision.
