Ministry Through Service
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave--just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:26-28 )
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:17)
A closer fellowship with God through Jesus Christ comes about by becoming involved in a ministry of serving. As we make ourselves available and offer to help, we learn that life comes in all its fullness not by getting, but by giving, not by being served, but by serving.
God does not ask us to serve on the basis of our own ability or will power; He delights to empower us by His Spirit. Nor does He want us to serve out of duty, obligation, or guilt. We serve as a way of thanking Him for Who He is and How He has brought us life and happiness through Jesus Christ.
Take the first step, make your gifts known. Say today, "Here I am Lord, Send me."
