Music in Worship
The music department is under the direction of Charles Jordan, Organist and Choirmaster. Mr. Jordan has been a member of the American Guild of Organists since 1962. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He studied organ with Dr. Robert Anderson and conducting with Dr. Lloyd Pfautsch in both undergraduate & graduate school. Mr. Jordan has served the parish since 1985.
The 24 rank Gress-Miles pipe organ, built in 1983, is a little gem situated in an organ loft above the sanctuary proper and speaks directly into the nave, which is acoustically favorable to music.
In addition to the organ, the music department uses electric acoustic guitars, the grand piano and drums when appropriate. From time to time these are augmented with flute and trumpet.
It is our desire to please the heart of God as we offer our worship - and to provide the most conducive environment for others to do the same. In doing so, the worship services may use a mix of music from various contemporary sources and also from the 1982 Hymnal.
It has often been said that the Lord is enthroned on the praises of his people (Psalm 22:3, RSV). May we all enthrone him as we praise him, whether in word, song, hymn or chant. And may we please his heart...
The Adult Choir sings at the 10:30 AM service. This Choir consists of non-professional singers deeply committed to Christ and giving back to our Lord the very best offering possible.
A diverse array of musical styles is incorporated into the worship services and ranges from the music of Schütz, Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn and other masters, to contemporary American composers. Brass ensembles are in place for the major feast days of Easter and Christmas.
